What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a holistic treatment that works on the soft tissue in the body called facia. Facia is the soft connective tissue that surrounds and influences every muscle and organ in the body. When inflamed, this can lead to a variety of health issues.

As a certified Bowen Therapist, Ana will perform a sequence of small movements at specific locations on the body to maximize the effect on nerve receptors. By relaxing the facia, the body is able to eliminate inflammation and start the healing process.

These small movements are non-invasive. Many patients report that Bowen Therapy is a deeply relaxing experience and have even fallen asleep during the treatment.

Bowen Therapy can help with a variety of conditions including:

  • Neck, back, and shoulder pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Knee injuries
  • Respiratory conditions, like asthma
  • Gastrointestinal disorders, like irritable bowel syndrome
  • Help reduce the side-effects of cancer treatment

As the treatment helps the body relax and reduces inflammation, Bowen Therapy can be successful in treating stress, fatigue, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, flexibility, and motor function.

A Bowen Therapy session will usually last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 ½ hours. You should wear light clothing as you may be asked to remove thick or heavy clothing. During your session, Ana may leave the room for a few minutes to give time for the treatment to take effect before moving on to the next sequence of movements.

Bowen is not meant to be an ongoing therapy. Though some patients report significant pain relief after just one session, expect 4 weekly sessions to get the maximum improvement and recovery.

Bowen Therapy is safe for everyone, from newborns to the elderly. By focusing on treating the cause of the problem rather than just the symptoms, you can experience long-lasting relief for a variety of health problems.
